It's time the government reconsidered its archaic rule mandating sale of power by independent power producers (IPPs) to the concerned electricity board. IPPs must be allowed to sell power to anybody who is willing to purchase it for distribution or retail sale. The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has taken the lead in this direction.
