Prefectural objections cast doubt on nuclear policy

A local government's refusal to allow a ship carrying highly radioactive waste to unload its cargo for three days again pointed an unwelcome spotlight upon Japan's uneven nuclear-energy policy. While critics called the move by Aomori Prefecture Governor nothing more than a political stunt, others say the incident may push the central government and local administrative bodies to better cooperate on the future shipments of nuclear waste.
