President Kim Dae-jung called on cabinet ministers to launch a massive energy conservation drive to contain the effects of rising oil prices on the nation's current account balance. Kim issued the instruction at a weekly cabinet meeting at Chong Wa Dae, in which he voiced concerns about the worsening account balance damaging international confidence in the Korean economy.
