If all goes well, by 2003 all villages in Gujarat will have the basic amenities of approacth roads, pucca roads from the village entrance to the courtyard, primary schools, electrification and individual and community latrines. Ironically of the total 18,144 villages in Gujarat more than 18,000 villages were bereft of basic facilities even after 50 years of independence till 1995 . Right now also, in the industry savvy money flush Gujarat, at least 7,000 villages in the state lack quite a few of basic amenities.
