Activists of the Delhi State Council of the Communist Party of India took out a protest march in the Capital on Thursday against the Delhi Government's proposed move to privatise water resources and its distribution.
After gathering at Ambedkar Bhawan on Rani Jhansi Road, the activists marched towards the Delhi Jal Board's office in Jhandewalan. They also shouted slogans for people's right to water and opposed privatisation of water resources and its distribution. They also blamed the State Government for not reining in the water mafia.
Addressing the meeting, CPI secretary Amarjeet Kaur accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress of being responsible for letting the water resources in Delhi to either dry up or get wasted.
“The Yamuna has been continuously made victim of pollution and huge construction activities were allowed on its banks which in future would bring more miseries to the people of Delhi,” said Ms. Kaur.
