Protests against high oil prices spread to UK

Fuel-tax protestors promised the UK a "new winter of discontent" as anger about the high price of oil spread across the channel from France. In France, while the government appeared to presuaded drivers' leaders to accept a deal based on limited cuts in fuel taxes and a compensation system to offset future price rises, many drivers vowed to continue the conflict.
