Public input lacking on nuclear fuel issue

The government in Japan is bracing for repercussions from the rejection by local residents of a plan to use plutonium-uranium mixed oxide fuel, known as MOX fuel, at a nuclear power plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) in the Niigata Prefecture village of Kariwa about 220 km northwest of the capital on the Japan Sea Coast. (Editorial)
