Punjab Govt gives 1.15 lakh Soil Health cards to farmers

To provide better agriculture facilities to the farmers of the State, Punjab Government has provided 1.15 lakh Soil Health Cards to the farmers through its agriculture department.
An official spokesperson of the State Government said that the Government had initiated an awareness campaign by organising camps for the farmers to provide technician know-how about the proper usage of fertilizers in accordance with the nutrient-status of their soil besides issuing soil health cards to keep all relevant information updated, like nutrients present in the soil along with recommendations for useing suitable fertilizers to enhance the fertility of the respective fields’ soil.
He informed that to maintain the soil fertility of the cultivable land besides ensuring purity of underground water being used for irrigation, the Agriculture Department had also established 66 special soil and water testing laboratories in twenty districts, which were providing dedicated services for the farmers at nominal rates.
Out of these seventeen laboratories were equipped with modern Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers for complete Soil analysis at micronutrients level. The three Pesticide Testing Laboratories in the State have also NABL accreditation, he added.
He further said that as many as 310120 samples of soil and 19761 of water had been analyzed in these various laboratories across the State during the last year and due recommendations had also been made accordingly to facilitate the farmers for ensuring the sustainable productivity of the land.
