The inquiry report regarding the skeletons found on the dry river bed of the Sutlej near Ferozepur has supported the district administrations' assertion that these bones are the remains of those consigned to the river bed in accordance with religious rights. The report has suggested DNA testing and recommended that the "water of the river be allowed to be released so that the river canal can supply much needed water to the area which it feeds."
