A new drug significantly reduces the chances of kidney-transplant rejection, according to the findings of an international study led by a Halifax doctor. Dr. Allan MacDonald, director of the QEII Health Sciences Centre transplant unit, found the drug Rapamune reduced acute rejection by up to 60 per cent compared with patients treated with conventional drugs.
