Rahul stressed on alternative energy sources

Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday night, stressed the significance of alternative energy sources for comprehensive prosperity even in interior regions. He was addressing a congregation of Self-Help Group (SHG) members at a village in Unchahar of Rae Barei dstrict. The day after, on Wednesday, Rahul inaugurated the Rajeev Gandhi Shilpi Mela at Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital at Amethi and distributed health cards to the beneficiaries of Rajeev Gandhi Health Insurance Scheme at parliamentary constituency in Amethi. Inaugurating the Shilp Mela, Rahul called upon party workers to ensure that the benefits of all Central schemes launched for the welfare of the poor, reached the target class and were not merely confined to papers. He also gave a patient hearing to all Congress workers at the Munshiganj Guest House in his constituency and heard about the progress of the different developmental schemes underway in the region. Earlier on Tuesday night, Rahul reached Virkapurwa Majre Kalyanpur village in Unchahar Assembly and reviewed the progress of works undertaken by the Kalyani Mahila Vikas Group - a unit of the Self Help Group (SHG) on the initiative of Rajeev Gandhi Foundation. He stressed on alternative sources of energy at a chaupal held at the village, where members of the outfit led by its president, Ms Saroj Devi presented a report to the leader. The SHG has creditable performed by installing a battery-charging unit in the village on nominal charge which is used to light bulbs in the village. Rahul took keen interest in the Solar Battery charging unit run by the SHG and also discussed how SHGs have positively impacted the living conditions of the local women folk. The village, equipped with solar energy, falls in the parliamentary constituency of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The village also figures as one of the 2,000 villages in India which has been electrified through non-conventional means. Raebareli and Amethi parliamentary constituencies have six villages which are electrified by alternative means. Rahul Gandhi completed his three day tour to the state and took off from Munhsiganj to return New Delhi on Wednesday evening.
