Officers of the Central Ground Water Department have set about a daunting task-- to transport water through palaeo-channels believed to be of the ancient river Saraswati, through the desert state. Daunting, because of river, if it ever existed, has been buried deep for over 5,000 years. The Central Ground Water Department, however, hopes to make Rajasthan the first state in the world to use buried channels of the river as tunnels to transport water in the arid desert.
