It was a rat race aboard space shuttle Columbia as rodents with electrodes implanted in their brains scurried around a 3-D track and a cross-shaped maze. Columbia's astronauts monitored the nerve activity of the exercising rats for the brains study. By late on Monday, all four test subjects had completed the course, one at a time. No information was collected from the fourth, however, because of a sensor problem.
