Human blood is similar to a pharmaceutical drug which should be manufactured with the utmost care, agree most of the doctors. But the scene at the major government hospitals tell a different story altogether. The blood bank at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, considered to be the leading government blood bank, is infested by hoards of rats, dustbins overflowing in the corridors, water seeping through the wall and plaster peeling off the walls in the very rooms where serious hygienic conditions are to be maintained.
