Biomass is being considered as a fifth fuel to supplement Malaysia's present four-fuel policy. Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Leo Moggie said the Government was encouraging use of renewable biomass for power generation. The wood processing industry and agro-industries, primarily the palm oil sector, would be instrumental in realising Malaysia's largely untapped biomass and co-generation potential, he said.
