Dam Will Supply Delhi With 275 MGD Daily
New Delhi: The Renuka Dam project that is expected to supply Delhi with 275 million gallons per day of water has been held up once again, this time due to lack of forest clearance. The project, that got the environment clearance last year, is now awaiting a go-ahead from the Supreme Court-appointed Centrally-empowered committee since nearly 40% of the land needed for it comes under the category of forest of which close to 50 hectare is under the Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary.
Delhi officials are, however, hopeful that work on the dam would start as early as August since the Himachal Pradesh government has already forwarded the proposal to the Centre.
