Mettuppalayam: The Odanthurai Panchayat in Mettuppalayam at the foothills of Western Ghats on Wednesday resolved not to grant approval for conversion of agricultural lands into layouts in a bid to prevent obstructions in the elephant corridor. A gram sabha meeting adopted a resolution stating that mushrooming real estate business at the foothills was posing a threat to the elephant corridor and leading to its fragmentation. The panchayat has 90 per cent of the agricultural lands. The resolution stated that if people continued to convert all agricultural lands into real estate, the panchayat would not provide basic amenities.
