Revised energy-efficiency standards for consumer appliances, to take effect in April, should cut power consumption by televisions 17.24% from fiscal 1996 levels by fiscal 2003, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Japan said. Power consumption by personal computers should go down 56% by fiscal 2005.
