The Delhi High Court directed the MCD to remove the unauthorised structures around the 32 ghats where last rites are performed. The bench headed by acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain said only ghats would remain on the banks of river Yamuna. However, structures around the ghats have to be demolished since they are illegal. While directing the MCD to demolish the buildings, the bench specified that DDA and NDMC should construct accommodations for the Pandas who are actually performing the last rites. These structures, however, have to be 300 metres away from the banks. Further, the MCD has to ensure that no unauthorised occupants live in these buildings.
