Road humps are a serious environmental threat, causing inceases in car exhaust pollution of at least 50 per cent and worsening petrol consumption, according to a British government-funded study.The report blamed the increased braking and acceleration that so-called 'sleeping policemen' generated as cars negotiated them slowly, then speeded up until reaching the next one.
