Role of governors

The common theme in the addresses of President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister A B Vajpayee at the two-day Governors' conference which concluded in New Delhi on Sunday was the need for the governors of States to assume a more pro-active role in the development process and help in the effective implementation of projects through active involvement. The President also mentioned projects like the interlinking of rivers and even made a computer presentation of his vision of India as a developed country. He wanted the governors not to consider themselves as ornamental figures and shun the temptation to act as rival centres of power...editorial
