At last a serious effort is being made to tame the Swan, the river which had over the years come to be known as the sorrow of Una.Many plans to channelise the turbulent rainfed river were formulated over the past two decades, but it was only two years ago that they were being given a practical shape. The Rs 106.03-crore Swan river flood management and integrated land development project had already started showing discernible results. The river has been playing havoc with crops, life and property of the people. Due to continued silting the bed of the Swan river has been rising constantly and, as a result, its width had been increasing and fertile tracts along the banks were turning into waste land.
