Government has enhanced the outlay for energy recovery from urban and agricultural waste from Rs 4 crore in 1998-99 to Rs 12 crore in 1999-2000. This will give a boost to projects promoted through the national programme on energy recovery from urban, municipal and industrial wastes, and projects on development of high-rate biomethanation process as a means of reducing green house gases emission.United Nations Development Programme and Global Environment facility are assisting the latter project.
