Rs 15,000 cr allocated for electrification in rural areas

The Union power ministry has proposed Rs 15,000 crore for rural electrification during the next 10 years. It has set aside Rs 5,500 crore from t eh corpus for unconventional sources of energy of which 60 per cent will be spent for solar energy.The move will help states like West Bengal where 97 per cent of the total power generated comes from thermal stations requiring purchase of huge quantities of coal.
