Rs 5,000-crore to promote village industries

In a bid to increase job opportunities for rural unemployed, the Union Government and the Planning Commission have decided to earmark about Rs 5,000 crore in the 10th Five year Plan for the development of khadi and village industries in the country, said Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Dr. Mukesh Sharma. Dr. Sharma was in Bangalore to participate in a function organised to celebrate the diamond jubilee year of khadi. Such an amount has been earmarked for the first time in the history of Five Year Plans. About Rs 250 crore has been allocated only to create about 20 lakh new jobs for rural youth in the sector.
