With reclamation of wetlands and fragmentation of land holdings over the years, they became a rare presence in the city and their population dwindled to a few hundreds. But dairy farmers in the district may soon have buffaloes in their cattle sheds again, thanks to a State-wide project launched by the Department of Animal Husbandry to promote the consumption of buffalo milk as a substitute to cow's milk. The scheme, named
