Rural budget may over take defence

For the first time, the rural development ministry's outlay in the Budget could exceed that of defence, which has traditionally grabbed the biggest chunk of money. Rural development minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh says this is what his ministry hopes. Although rural development has always been second after defence, the gap has been huge. These has to be manifold step-up in funds for redevelopment if this trend is to be reversed.
