Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has said that the uplift of rural poor must take place side by side with advance in technology to bring India in the category of developed nations. "We need to turn around so that people prefer to migrate from urban to rural areas like is the case in other developed countries like US, Japan and Germany, where all facilities are available in the countryside so people move out of cities. But that is possible only when along with progress in the IT sector, space science, etc, villages enjoy pure drinking water, connectivity to all villages, a hospital, a school, shelter and employment to its rural poor," Mr Advani said while inaugurating a two-day national conference of project directors of District Rural Development Agencies (drdas) organised by Rural Development Ministry.
