Russia's bid for quick entry to the World Trade Organisation is in jeopardy over the country's refusal to open up key sectors of its economy to foreign competition, European Union trade negotiators said. President Vladimir Putin last year made swift accession into the WTO one of his main policy goals, and the Bush administration, grateful for Russia's backing in the war on terror, pledged to support the bid. Moscow's enthusiasm for the WTO has since warned in the face of aggressive lobbying by business interests fearful of foreign competition.
