SAARC delegates call for collective action in environmental preservation

Delegates from the SAARC countries who met in Thimphu (Bhutan) agreed that collective policies and actions were required to prevent natural disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes and glacial lakes outbrusts in the South Asia region. The delegates who were attending the first meeting of the Technical Committee on Environment, Meteorolgy and Forestry under the SAARC Integrated Programme of Action (SIPA) pointed out all the commitments which had been assumed in the field of environment could not be realised without the appropriate supplementary support.
