Gerhard Schroder, German Chancellor, faces a serious clash with coalition allies this week over demands he renege on a government commitment to support the building of two nuclear power stations in Ukraine. The row, over pledges made by the previous administration of chancellor Helmut Kohl in 1995, threatens to embarrass Mr Schroder before the meeting of Group of Seven Industrial countries and Russia, starting in Cologne.
