The cost of scrapping the Dabhol power project could cost the Maharashtra government anywhere between $2.23 billion to $5 billion. Industry sources familiar with the agreements between the Dabhol Power Company and the Maharashtra State Electricity Board say that terminating the deal would entail paying minimum damage charges of 20 per cent over the $1.86 billion currently being incurred for setting up the project.
