Secondary zinc manufacturers in the country, who manufacure zinc primarily from zinc ash, a non-hazardous recycleable material, continue to suffer due to the ban on its imports having been termed 'hazardous' despite decisions given in their favour by national as well as international bodies.The Basel Convention on Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes held in Malaysia in February 1998 had already placed zinc ash in the lit of non-hazardous materials.
