Oil company Royal Dutch/Shell said it and Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. plan to build a pilot-emission-free gas fired station in Norway. The new technology, which stops harmful gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen dioxide reaching the atmosphere, would mainly be used to generate power for offshore oil and gas installations but could later be used commercially on land.
