Ships carrying nuclear fuel leave France for Japan

France's state-owned nuclear fuel company, said two armed ships carrying uranium and plutonium mixed oxide (MOX) fuel bound for Japan left the northwestern French port of Cherbourg on Friday.The two British-flagged vessels-the 5,087-ton Pacific Pintail and the 4,648-ton Pacific Teal-are carrying Cogema fuel bound for Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture.
