Sikkim`s Plan size fixed at Rs 405 crores

The Annual Plan for Sikkim for the year 2003-2004 was finalised here today at Rs.405 crores during a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, K.C. Pant, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Kumar Chamling. The Planning Commission pegged the core Plan size at Rs.405 crores on the basis of identifiable resources. Appreciating the State's performance in some of the social sectors, Mr. Pant said that the literacy rate achieved by the State and health indicators were quite impressive. But quality of education, especially with regard to training of teachers and lowering of drop-out rates in the primary sections need to be improved and growth rate of the population needs to be arrested.
