To give a major fillip to hydro power generation in the country, the Power Ministry is working on a six point strategy to attract hydro-players in this sector in a big way. Under the proposed strategy, the players would require minimum number of environmental clearances, the debt repayment would have a longer spread, project commissioning would be within a stipulated time frame, there would be a provision for extension of budgetary support for promoters of hydro-plants, timely payment by states to the promoters would be ensured and tarriff would be fixed on the availability concept.
