The chief scientist of Indian tobacco company (ITC) has devised a "Solar barn" which uses solar energy for curing Virginia tobacco in technical collaboration with a Russia-based "NPO mashinostroyenia" research institute. The scientist Dr T S Subramaniam, who developed the Solar barn, said at present fuel wood and coal were used to cure tobacco in the conventional type of barns.
