In northwest China's Qinghai Province, herdsmen, who used to use candles or butter lamps for lighting at night are able to watch television or use washing machines at home thanks to solar energy. Nearly 30,000 families of herdsmen, or 30 per cent of Qinghai's total, are now using solar energy for electricity.
