Power is conspicuous by its absence at Leh and various areas of the town get less than four hours of electricity every alternate day, usually from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight. Go to Prey village, 18 km from Leh, on the Leh-Kargil road, and it virtually has round-the-check electricity, thanks to the solar panels the volunteers of a non-governmental organisations , SECMOL (the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Lakakh), have installed.
