In a move that may revolutionise the Indian automobile sector, the Government is about to introduce Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as auto fuel. A bill to amend the existing law will be introduced during the winter session of Parliament beginning next week. According to a study conducted by an expert group constituted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, over five lakh vehicles in the country were being clandestinely run on cooking gas (as LPG is commonly known) which is heavily subsidized.
