The southern States have taken a comfortable lead in registering the developmental growth compared to the States located in north, northeast, east and west. According to analysis carried out by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), the southern States' economic performance took an upturn in the 1990s and accelerated its growth to 6 per cent as against 5 per cent in the 1980s. The impact of this growth rate was visible in sectors such as agriculture, industry and services.
