SPD applauds Green backing over N-plants

Germany's ruling Social Democrats have hailed the decision by their Green party allies on shutting nuclear power stations as strengthening the "red-green" coalition. The deal negotiated with the big power utilities, which would set a maximum lifespan for power stations of 32 years from the start of commercial production, fell far short of Green's hopes and has been stiffly criticised by environmental groups.
