- Speech secrets may lie in gene

  • 17/03/1998

A team of British scientists is close to finding the first gene known to be associated with speech and language. They have located the part of a chromosome that holds the gene, known as Speech One, in research that has implications for the 3 per cent to 4 per cent of the population with some kind of speech inpairment. When the gene is found and investigated, it may also give new clues about autism.
