BENEFICIAL:Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laying foundation stone for the water schemes near Rajapalayam on Monday.
RAJAPALAYAM: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stone for three Tamiraparani combined drinking water schemes for Virudhunagar district to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 597 crore, near here.
The water schemes would benefit 15.56 lakh people of seven town panchayats and 1,787 rural habitations. Water would be drawn from the Tambiraparani at Mukkoodal, Seevalaperi and Vallandu and supplied by laying main pipelines for 775 km, 1,125 km and 1,283 km respectively for the three schemes.
Recalling that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had rewarded the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board officials for speedier implementation of the Cauvery drinking water scheme for Ramanathapuram, Mr. Stalin promised to reward the officials, if they could complete the schemes before the stipulated period of two years.
Mr. Stalin listed out drinking water projects implemented by the present Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government.
