A fresh row is brewing between the state forest department and the Kudremukh iron Ore Company Ltd. over the company's plans to build a dam across the Kochigehole tributary of thw bhadra river in the Kudremukh National Park. The dam will filter waste water from the iron ore processing done by the company at its plant inside the park. The KIOCL, a govt of India concern, has applied for clearance to the state ministry of environment and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to construct the 90-metre high dam. A public hearing on the dam is scheduled for later this month.
