State losing Rs 60 cr due to SC ban on tree felling

Nagen : The State Government has been losing about Rs 60 crore annually , as revenue collection, since felling of trees was banned in the State by the Supreme Court of India. While attending the inaugural functionof Nameri National Park at Potasali, the State PWD and Forest Minister, Nagen Sarma told newsmen that since the prohibition order was executed in the State, the number of illegal felling of tees and incidents of illegal shifting of trees to outside the State through railway movement have increased considerably. However, the employees of Forest Department succeeded to seize a large number of such trees and its logs fron the anti-socials.
