States slam EPA over study on oil drilling "slime"

U.S. oil and natural gas producing states complained yesterday about a proposed study by the Environmental Protection Agency on the effects of hydraulic fracturing used during drilling, calling the study a waste of taxpayer money and unnecessary. Hydraulic fracturing takes place in the oil field drilling process, in which a fluid similar to the children's toy "slime" is pumped into the ground at a high pressure, creating cracks that allow the oil to flow to the well.
