New Delhi: The new design of pavements being constructed on several arterial roads as part of the ongoing streetscaping has become a cause for traffic jams. The new pavements have dedicated tracks for non-motorized vehicles which has taken away almost one lane of road space. Fearing a repeat of the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) jams, the traffic police are up in arms against the design and have even got construction stopped at locations like Bhishma Pitamah Marg and opposite Old Delhi railway station.
The LG office reviewed the matter on Monday and from now on, cycle tracks will only come up on arterial roads where carriageway space meant for movement of vehicles is not being compromised.
