The role played by soil, water and forests in our environment needs to be correctly understood and the first step in this process of understanding is to promote 'water literacy' among the people, according to Mr Shree Padre. Speaking at a programme on water conservation jointly organised by the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) and the Corporation Bank Officers' Organisation (CBOO) as part of their attempt to address 'socially relevant issues', Mr Shree Padre, described as a 'renowned water conservation activist', dwelt on the need for 'social participation' in spreading 'water literacy'.
